Sandra Collier

Sandra’s career began in her hometown of Durban, South Africa, working as a banquet co-ordinator with the largest hotel group and hotel conference centre in the country at the time. After a few years in 4 and 5 star hotel operations, Sandra moved into Sales & Marketing in regional offices in Durban and Cape Town, before relocating from Cape Town to headquarters in Johannesburg. She was head hunted by Rennies Travel to set up a meeting planning and incentive travel division, but in 1994 saw an opportunity to move into a joint partnership, setting up a business that specialized in event management and international inbound and outbound group travel and meetings. This was an exciting time in South Africa’s history as apartheid had been dismantled, Nelson Mandela had become the country’s first black head of state in a fully representative democratic election. The country opened to the world for business and travel, and there was high demand for hosting international meetings across all spheres as well as for reward and incentive travel out to the world where doors had previously been closed. In 2003, Sandra and her husband, made the move to the USA, to fulfil a long-held dream to work and live in the USA. Sandra’s understanding of the meeting and hospitality industry, the challenges and rewards of working in developing countries, and her network of relationships across the globe, have been a strong foundation for growth in the vibrant USA market. The company today has a small but dedicated team of like-minded individuals. The meetings and events team focuses to a large degree on philanthropic, academic and broader global health sectors, where meeting outcomes truly bring change. Sandra has traveled the globe extensively and is a member of a number of organisations including PCMA (Professional Conference Management Association), WWF, Safari Professionals of the Americas and African Wildlife Foundation.
